The website of the Assistive Technology Advocacy Center (ATAC) of Disability Rights New Jersey (or DRNJ) allows New Jersey residents to acquire, sell or donate used equipment that helps people with disabilities be more independent. The website, Back In Action, (http://BackInAction.drnj.org) provides a way for New Jersey Residents to exchange assistive technology devices. Assistive technology is any equipment that improves life for people with disabilities, including walkers, wheelchairs, power scooters, ext telephones, augmentative communication devices and adaptive computer software. Back In Action users can post free classified ads with a description and/or picture of the item for sale or donation, search for needed items, post want ads, or requests an email alert when a needed item is listed. The sellers and buyers handle all transactions.

Accepts most books except old textbooks and encyclopedias. Gives store credit for donated paperback books (20% of retail price). Accepts limited hardcovers. Any books they cannot use and give credit for they will return of donate to local library or charitable organization if asked.
An organization of Bryn Mawr College alumnae in the central NJ area raises scholarship money for students from central NJ attending Bryn Mawr College in PA. Annual Bryn Mawr Book Sale held at Princeton Day School gym and cafeteria. Donations of paperbacks and hard cover books can be delivered to the warehouse in the rear of 32 Vandeventer Ave in Princeton on Wed and Sat 10am to noon.

Provides the local community with affordable, top-quality resale clothing, furniture and household goods. Proceeds cover operating costs and fund family support programs that benefit families in the Hightstown-East Windsor area. Hours: Monday and Tuesday 10am to 3pm; Wednesday thru Saturday 10am to 7pm; Sunday Closed. Donations accepted Saturdays only 10am to 2pm.
Collects old, used, unused hearing aids (regardless of size, condition or age). This program refurbishes these items and distributes them to children in developing countries. Send hearing aids to P.O. Box address.
HomeFront works with homeless families in Mercer County to provide food and housing, as well as address the root causes of homelessness. Accepts donations of gently used household goods; gently worn clothing; gently used furniture; cars, vans, and trucks in good working order that have passed state inspections. Donations can be brought to the office in Lawrenceville or call for pick-up.
A resource for any light bulb (lamp) user seeking details on recycling spent mercury-containing lamps. Provides a one-stop source of information about spent fluorescent and high intensity discharge lamp recycling. All fluorescent and most high intensity lamps contain mercury, a naturally occurring element that is pervasive in the environment. It is important that lamps and other products containing mercury be properly managed to protect public health and the environment.
Martin House works in one of the poorest parts of Trenton, the Wilbur Section, to provide housing, education, and resources. They accept donations of working refrigerators, stoves, washers, and dryers, bedroom furniture, sheets, pillows, pillowcases, blankets, mattresses, and towels. Must be neat clean, unstained and less than 5 years old. Will not accept oversized furniture.

NJ Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center, Inc

Takes donations of eyeglasses to be processed and then distributed to those in need.
Pedals for Progress ships bicycles to poorer countries for use, promotes bicycle repair businesses in these countries, and keeps bicycles out of landfills. See website for information on holding a bicycle collection or finding one in progress near you. Requires a minimum of $10 donation with every bicycle donated.
Collecting used but not abused men's and women's sneakers, in sizes 6 and larger. Donated sneakers are shipped to Africa, where they are sold. Proceeds from their resale are used to purchase well and irrigation systems, provide education on use and farming techniques and purchase land and crops for families in need. Based in Delaware, with local collection sites: Gold's Gym in Hamilton & Lawrence, YMCA in Princeton, Christ Presbyterian Church in Hamilton.
The Friends of the Princeton Public Library holds an annual book sale. They accept donations of books in good condition (excluding textbooks, magazines, and encyclopedias). Call about drop off hours.
Buys and sells new and used CDs. DVDs, LPs (33) and games at their store or online
Accepts donations of bright, cotton fabric appropriate for children. Quilts are made by volunteers and given to children who have a life threatening illness or have been involved in a case of abuse.
Radio Shack takes donations of rechargeable batteries from items such as wireless phones, laptops, camcorders, digital cameras, radio-controlled toys, cordless power tools. This includes Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd), Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH), Lithium Ion (Li-ion) and small sealed lead acid (Pb) batteries. Also accepts cell phones regardless of condition and with or without chargers. All items can be dropped off at any RadioShack location.
Website that promotes waste reduction and recycling approaches in the state of New Jersey. It provides information for residents with the aim of reducing the amount of trash. Specific recommendations are included for how to recycle/reuse different items.
The Rescue Mission of Trenton provides a safe place for the homeless, hungry, transient, and addicted, and provide services and counseling. They accept donations of quality adult and children's clothing, furniture, working appliances, outdoor furniture, and automobiles. Pick-up available
Provides a home for seriously ill children and their families who are being treated at nearby hospitals. Accepts donations of bed, bath and laundry supplies, kitchen supplies, gift cards, etc. See website for an updated Wish List of specific items.
Second Chance Toys rescues unwanted toys and refurbishes them for distribution to children through community organizations.

The Crisis Ministry provides food, financial assistance, and advocacy to ease the hardships of poverty. Their main program is the Food Program. as well as the program Harvesting Hope for on the job training. They also have a food delivery program for the elderly and homebound. They accept food donations and personal care products (please see website for details on specific items).
Buy, refurbish, and resell used instruments. Also allow trade-in of an older instrument for a newer one.

Trenton Animal Shelter is a division of the Trenton Bureau of Animal Control. They provide services for abandoned animals, including adoption services. Their adoption services operate out of Petsmart. They accept donations of cat and dog toys, crates, towels, cat and dog food, flea products. digital cameras, leashes, collars, bowls, cleaning supplies, cat litter. Donations can be dropped off the the Langhorne PA Petsmart on adoption days- please call 215-949-9602 for information.
TASK provides meals to those in need, services to promote self-sufficiency, informing the community of the needs of the hungry, and advocating to meet these needs. The accept previously assembled hygiene bags and mini-hygiene bags (see website for what each bag should contain), men's white tube socks, winter clothing (from October-March), reading glasses, unused greeting cards, calendars, datebooks, school supplies (distributed 4th Friday in August, accepted last two weeks of August only), computers (email Diane Stubber for details dianes@trentonsoupkitchen.org).
Womanspace is a non-profit agency that provides services to individuals and families that have been affected by domestic and sexual violence. They accept gift certificates to teacher supply stores, book stores, Shoprite, gas stations, Target, and Walmart, art supplies, school supplies, computer software, cleaning products, personal care products, flat panel computer monitors, printers, twin comforters and sheets, women's and children's clothing, and toys.
